End of game
Bishop Carroll beat Emporia 42-6 to advance to the 5A semifinals. EHS' season ended with an 8-3 record. Mark Kolmer ran for 86 yards in 17 carries in the loss. The Spartans had 232 total yards of offense.
Fourth quarter
Blake Rollins scored on a three-yard run for Carroll on the first play of the fourth quarter. It's now 35-6 in favor of the Eagles.
End of third quarter
Blake Bell hit Shane Brittain on a fade pass on the side of the end zone, and Brittain was ruled inbounds on a questionable call with 3:36 remaining in the third. The 16-yard TD play and the extra point made it 28-6 in favor of Carroll.
The Spartans' next drive ended on a 4th-and-3 fake punt pass by Jacob Loucks. His pass to a well-covered Justin Malone fell incomplete.
Halftime
Bishop Carroll still leads Emporia by a 21-6 score.
The Spartans blocked a 48-yard field goal attempt by the Golden Eagles' Matt Straka on the final play of the first half.
EHS has 83 total yards at halftime to Carroll's 265. Mark Kolmer has 41 yards in seven carries for Emporia.
Second quarter
A 5-yard TD pass from Brandon Gentz to Jacob Loucks stopped a run of 21 unanswered points by Bishop Carroll in the teams' Class 5A quarterfinal, and with 4:56 left in the first half, the Spartans trail 21-6.
The pass to Loucks came on a third-and-5 play. The extra point was no good.
Bishop Carroll scored on three of its first four possessions to take a 21-0 lead on EHS. Quarterback Blake Bell ran for one 32-yard TD and threw for another, hitting Tyler Nance on a 21-yard play.
