Lottery at Legion; Democrat meeting

Lottery at Legion

Personnel from the Kansas Lottery will visit American Legion Post 5 from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday with a special offer for lottery players. Those buying $10 worth of Veteran’s tickets will receive a choice of lottery prizes. Net profits from the Veteran’s promotion go to benefit Kansas veterans, stated the news release.

Democrat meeting

Chris Biggs, Kansas Securities Commissioner and 2010 candidate for Kansas Secretary of State will address the Lyon County Democrats at their breakfast meeting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Regency Gardens restaurant on West Highway 50. The public is welcome to attend.

Republican Women meet

Lyon County Republican Women will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Lyon County extension office, 2632 W. Highway 50. There will be an election of officers. The program will be a DVD, “We Have the Power.” Members are still collecting food items for the Salvation Army pantry. The public is invited to attend.

Bethel supper

The annual Harvest Supper for the Bethel community will be served at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the school house. Each family is to bring a a covered dish and table service. The Pep and Progress Community Unit will provide the turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and beverages.

Madrigal Feast

The Colonial Ballroom in the Emporia State University Memorial Union will be transformed into a scene from Elizabethan England when the ESU A Cappella Choir holds the annual Renaissance Madrigal Feast, beginning at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 and 21.

According to the press release from Terry Barham, director of choral activities at ESU, “For the past 14 years , A Cappella Choir has presented this evening fine eating and entertainment each November. This year, guests will be served a five-course meal and will be entertained by the ESU Madrigal Singers and the Brass Pipers, along with a play within a play dealing with pirates and their misadventures.”

Proceeds from the Feast support the choir’s May 2010 England tour and choral scholarships. Reservations are $28 each person. Groups purchasing tickets in blocks of eight will receive a 10 percent discount. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Friday.
