Collectible ornaments available

Thursday, November 12, 2009

Emporia Main Street’s newest edition of collectible Christmas ornaments is for sale with past ornaments available in limited quantities as well.

Casey Woods, executive director of Emporia Main Street, said the newest ornament, which features The Emporia Gazette, arrived Saturday and is ready for purchase with a $10 suggested donation.

Each year the Emporia Main Street Design Committee comes up with a design of a standing historical structure or a historical structure in Emporia’s past. Emporia Main Street started offering collectible ornaments in 1995. Past ornaments include the Emporia House, Red Rocks, Soden’s Bridge, Kenyon Hall, Granada Theatre, Board of Education building, original Lyon County Courthouse, Plumb Place, William Lindsay White Arena/Civic Auditorium, Train Depot, Lyon County Historical Museum, the Memorial Union at Emporia State University, First Presbyterian Church on Commercial Street and the Moore’s Block Building. The past ornaments are available for a $10 suggested donation, Woods said.

“It’s a great way to learn about Emporia’s history,” Woods said. “It’s a unique ornament or gift. ... It’s commemorating people who have committed themselves to preserve and keep our unique architecture alive and vibrant.”

Ornaments are available at Town Crier, 716 Commercial St.; Lyon County Historical Museum, 118 E. Sixth Ave.; AKA Marketing, 524 Commercial St.; and Emporia Main Street, 12 E. Fifth Ave.

Howdy folks – the Marlin here.
My mom always said, “Merle, if you fish for a sandwich you will make fishers MEN of all sandwiches and (then) not have to worry about it/them.” That meant work hard (even when you’re fishing). That’s why I’m a little upset about these darn ornaments – you fellers just didn’t work (THAT) hard.
You think just one ornament design council member would have made an ornament of the zinger factory. Or can you fellers make an ornament(s) of the hot dog stand? I buy all my lunch hot dogs from that mobile roaming unit (MRU). How about this – a picture of the whole ornament zoning council voting on ornament design. It could look like the signing of the Declaration of Independence. (or MAY(be) the ornament council just getting some snacks – this is the real, disarming approach to capturing ornament design/discussion and it’s what people like because it’s not phony (and old fashioned snacks).
Please let me help make your ornaments next year. I think you seem like your nice, but you need some help from an expert.
Also, I’m having a garage sale tonight so you fellers should come over and buy some stuff. Here is a partial list:
1. Cereal (some still in original boxes)
2. Cat(s)
3. Irregular yarn (NO) LONGER on a SPOOL!!!
4. Whipple Suit. This is the real whipple suit. Non buttoning and sized for wearing
5. 1,000 gallon aquarium that can be used to store fish or it could be a septic tank
