Church milestone

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

The Olpe United Methodist Church will be host for friends and church family at a special worship and consecration service at 11 a.m. Sunday during the annual Homecoming celebration. The guest speaker will be the Rev. and District Superintendent Howard Johnson of Manhattan. The Rev. Johnson will conduct the consecration service for the new addition to the church. Sunday school will be at 10 a.m. and a covered dish dinner will be served at noon. Beginning at 1:15 p.m, there will be a musical program and time for reminiscing.

The Olpe church was dedicated in January 1900 by Bishop Quayle and has served the Olpe community through worship, Sunday school, youth fellowship, children’s programs, funeral dinners and helping those in need. An addition with more space for children’s programs, a kitchen and pastor’s study was recently built “after much prayer and generous gifts,” said the Rev. Lucille Barb in the news release. She said the public is invited to “celebrate this milestone in the life of the church and to come share the joy and fellowship.”
