Biscuits, gravy and sausage are on the menu for the Americus Masonic Lodge breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Juice and coffee will also be available. The breakfast will be held at the Masonic Lodge 109, 551 Broadway.

Holiday parade

The Americus Holiday Lighted parade will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 with line-up at the corner of Main and Walnut. All entries must be lighted and bicyclists must wear helmets.

Entries may be made by calling (620) 443-5546.

The theme for the parade is “Country Christmas.” Prizes will be awarded in three categories: Best depiction of the parade theme, best use of lights, and judges’ choice.

Library news

The complete set of the William Allen White books for Grades 3 through 5 and 6 through 8 are available for check out. The students will vote on their favorite book in April. The celebrations with other students from across the state and a parade will be held in October in Emporia.

“Nine Dragons” by Michael Connelly, “Rough Country” by John Sandford, “That Holiday Feeling” by Debbie Macomber, “Lakeshore Christmas” by Susan Wiggs, “The Professional” by Robert B. Tucker, “Cedar Cove Cookbook” by Debbie Macomber and the majority of the recommended Presbyterian reading book list are available for checkout. A wide variety of videos, DVDs and audio books are on the shelves for checkout also.

A display case, in memory of Franklin C. Myers, is offered free to the public to show collections or highlight a holiday or event. Call the library for information.

Story time for preschool children is at 9:30 a.m. each Thursday. The group completes a timely holiday craft each month.

Unsold books from the book sale are on shelves in the meeting room.

The meeting room is available for public use during regular library hours.

The winter hours for the library are 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday; and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday.
