EHS students to shoot video for Chiefs contest

Emporia High School Video II students have made a video for the Chiefs contest called “Fuel up to Play 60.” This video promotes healthy eating and being active for at least 60 minutes every day, a news release stated. The KC Chiefs are posting all the videos on the KC fuel up Web site so that people can vote on their favorite videos. EHS Video II students need people to help them by going to http://www.kcfuelup.com/vote.html and voting for the “Emporia High Play 60” video. Voting must be done by Friday.

Emporia Public Library Board

The Emporia Public Library board meets at 4:30 p.m. today in the large meeting room.

The agenda includes administrative, committee, representative and treasurer’s reports; old business: staff holiday reports, public service assessments and donor board; new business: Emporia Area Legislative gathering, replacement of VendPrint with Envisionware; board prerogative; adjourn.

Celebrating

110 years

Catherine Carter of Emporia will be the guest of honor at a birthday party given at 3 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Presbyterian Manor to celebrate her 110th birthday. Host will be the Mount Olive A.M.E. Church. Carter is one of the oldest residents in the state of Kansas and the oldest resident of Emporia.

Winterization for energy efficiency

Simple ways to make homes more energy-efficient will be taught at a winter weatherization class this week at the Flint Hills Technical College.

According to information from the Sustainable Living Center, which will hold the class, many households could save 20 to 30 percent of their household energy bills by implementing simple changes at their homes.

The cost is $29 per person for the class, which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
