A story of a young Jewish girl whose family hid for two years from the Nazis during World War II will be portrayed this week by actors in the Emporia High School Theatre Department.
“The Diary of Anne Frank” will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Saturday in the EHS auditorium. The cost is $6 per person.
Emporia Middle School students will see the play during a matinee performance on Friday; that show is not open to the public.
The play, based on the diary begun by the 13-year-old girl, chronicles the two years she and the family spent confined in hiding in the back rooms of her father’s office building in Amsterdam. The family had fled from Frankfurt, Germany, to Amsterdam in the 1930’s, during the rise of Adolph Hitler and his implementation of sanctions against Jews.
