Rayl inducted into Hall of Fame

Monday, November 9, 2009

Chase County attorney Charles Rayl joined an elite list Sunday afternoon when he was inducted into the Kansas National Guard Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Topeka.

Also inducted were Pvt. William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, Cpl. James Whitfield Ross, and retired Command Sgt. Maj. Warren J. “Bud” Smith.

“It’s a humbling experience, I think,” Rayl said.

The Guard picks two to four people annually to induct into the Hall of Fame, which held its first induction in 1979. The full list and biographies may be seen at http://www.kansasguardmuseum.org/hof.html.

“The first one on the list is a former governor who gave up the governorship to go fight Indians,” Rayl said. “It’s obviously an honor. … I kind of consider that a privilege to have served and an honor that I got picked.”

"NG" ? Who cares? I have tremendous respect for most active, reserve or NG: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines & Navy *and* their support people; i.e. family. Thanks Charlie. And congratulations.
