SOS will offer a training program for those interested in becoming SOS volunteer advocates, beginning at 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at the SOS outreach offices at 402 Commercial St. SOS does request at $10 donation for a background check as part of the application training. Volunteer opportunities include answering the helpline, providing support to victims and children, picking up donations, assisting with clerical work and special events, stated the news release. SOS is also looking for bi-lingual volunteers for the responsibilities listed or for translation services. Advocacy training includes instructions regarding domestic violence and sexual assault, how to be supportive to victims and children, legal and ethical issues and educational activities.Training is free.
