Fish fry

Fish fry

The Emporia East-Side Community Group will have a fish fry from 11:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday at the Grace United Methodist Church, 2 Neosho St. This is a fundraiser to help with the annual college scholarship and improvements to the Eastside Park on Ninth Avenue and East St. For more information or to volunteer to help, call Al Slappy at 757-0006 or Earl Williams at 481-9622.

Melvern event

The annual Melvern Methodist Church Food Sale, Boutique and Bazaar will be held Saturday at the Melvern Community Center. The food sale and boutique begin at 9 p.m., with the auction starting at 1 p.m. The auction will include a quilt and other handmade items.

Soup in Miller

The Miller United Methodist Women will have the annual Soup Supper and Bazaar, beginning at 5 p.m. Friday in the new Fellowship Hall.

Pancakes

The Emporia Christian School will have its 16th annual Pancake Feed from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Anderson Building on the Lyon County Fairgrounds. Tickets are available from ESC students or at the office, 1325 C of E Drive.

Advance tickets are a donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children 3 to 12 years. Tickets at the door will be $5.50 and $3.50. The pancake batter is being donated by the Village Inn. This year’s proceeds will be used to help with new restroom facilities for the growing pre-school classes.

Steak and potatoes

The Americus United Methodist Church annual Fall Festival dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. The menu includes baked steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad and pie. Free will offerings will be accepted.

Penny supper

The Hartford United Methodist Women will serve the Penny Supper, beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday at the church. Some of the foods to be served will be ham loaf, chicken pie, minute steak, a variety of home-cooked vegetables, a variety of salads, homemade noodles, rolls, cornbread, pie, ice cream and beverages. The next Penny Supper will be Feb. 6, 2010.

Allen dinner

The Allen United Methodist Church will serve dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church. The meal includes chicken and dressing casserole, green beans, cranberry salad, homemade rolls and a variety of desserts. Carry out will be available. A free-will offering will be accepted.
