LEBO — Lebo’s Wolves gathered in a team picture pose on the field for their fans, even though it was clear in their faces that — for good reason — it was about the last thing the Wolves wanted to do. Trevor White, kneeling in the first row, tried to suppress his tears. His teammates, for the most part, just looked solemn or saddened.
The Wolves’ season — featuring nine wins, a Lyon County League title and a district championship — had ended in a flurry of costly second-half mistakes, the last a fumble by White on second-and-goal from Frankfort’s 2-yard line with less than two minutes to go. Frankfort escaped Lebo with a 46-44 victory on Tuesday in the first round of the Eight-Man I playoffs, leaving the Wolves to wonder how they had let their postseason opener get away after going to halftime with a 12-point lead.
