Emporia High will play host to McPherson in its Class 5A football playoff opener Friday at Welch Stadium.
With their victory over Salina South on Friday night to clinch the District 5 championship, the Spartans (7-2) earned the No. 3 seed for the West half of the 5A bracket. McPherson’s Bullpups are 8-1 on the year. The winner of the McPherson-Emporia game will move on to face the winner between second-seeded Bishop Carroll (9-0) and Newton (7-2).
Hutchinson (9-0) is the No. 1 seed in the West portion of the bracket and will host Liberal (3-6) on Friday. Kapaun Mt. Carmel (6-3) is the fourth seed and hosts Salina South in the first round.
