When the Regional title plaque reached the sea of eager Emporia High hands at midfield, the first pair of hands it went into belonged to Arnoldo Torres. Given how things unfolded on Saturday afternoon at TRYSA, that was more than appropriate.
Two goals by Torres, coming less than five minutes apart in the first half, were enough to etch Emporia High’s name into the Class 5A State tournament bracket, as the Spartans took down Salina Central 2-1 to win the title of their Central Kansas Regional bracket.
“It’s something you can’t explain,” Torres said. “It’s a feeling that you can’t explain it with words. It’s an amazing feeling.”
