Angel Food orders due

Three types of food boxes and four bonus boxes of meats or fruits and vegetables are offered this month as part of the Angel Food Ministries project at Emporia churches.

Anyone is eligible to purchase one or more boxes, with no income or basic box requirement. Orders may be placed online at www.angelfoodministries.com, with a $1 service charge, or in person at the churches during times and dates listed below. Checks are not accepted as payment. Orders not picked up at the specified times will be donated to others who need food.

The regular food box will contain: 1.5 lb. ribeye steaks, 1 lb. boneless center-cut pork chops, 2 lb. chicken-fried rice skillet meal (all-white chicken meat, rice, vegetables with egg and teriyaki sauce), 22 oz. lasagna with meat sauce, 22 oz. breaded fish patties (5), 1 lb. lean ground beef, 1.5 lb. breaded chicken breast fillet, 1 lb. each frozen zucchini, cauliflower florets, broccoli florets, 1 lb. hash brown patties, 8-oz. breakfast cereal, 2 lb. bag fresh onions, 2 lb. 2 percent dry milk, dozen eggs, dessert, $30.

Senior and convenience meal boxes contain 10 fully cooked heat-and-serve meals, with 3 oz. of protein, a starch and two vegetables or fruit. Contents are: sliced turkey and dressing with gravy, corn and green bean/cranberry blend; macaroni and beef with noodles, carrots, zucchini and red pepper; country herb chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli and green bean blend; macaroni and cheese with broccoli and lima beans; beef stew with carrots and potatoes, Brussels sprouts and corn/red peppeer blend; sweet and sour chicken with rice, sugar snap peas and carrots; mesquite chicken with rice/black bean blend, carrots and green beans; chicken and rice with mushroom sauce, green beans and black bean/corn blend; charbroiled beef patty, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots and corn blend; lemon pepper baked fish, rice, pease, zucchini/red pepper blend. Desserts included are: assorted cookies, mixed fruit cup, applesauce, Nature Valley bar, cranberry juice cocktail, pineapple juice, $28.

Allergen-free box, processed to eliminate peanuts, soybeans, milk, eggs, fish, crustacea, tree nuts and gluten, according to AFM: one pound each of breaded chicken fillet patties, breaded chicken tenders, breaded chicken nuggets, breaded steak fingers and breaded chicken wings, $23.

Bonus Box 1: 1.5 lb. New York strip steaks, 2 lb. Boston butt chops, 2 lb. lean hamburger steaks, 1.5 lb. Italian sausage with cheese, $23.

Bonus Box 2: 2 lb. sirloin steak strips, 1.5 lb. bacon-wrapped beef fillet, 1.5 lb. bacon-wrapped chicken fillet, $22.

Bonus Box 3: 10 lbs. frozen boneless-skinless chicken breasts, $21.

Bonus Box 4: 1 celery stalk, 3 lb. sweet potatoes, 3 lb. Idaho potatoes, 1 head cabbage, 1 lb. carrots, 3 lb. oranges, 3 lb. apples, 8 oz. pecan halves, 4 Bosc pears, 12 oz. honey, 2 grapefruit, $22.

Orders will be accepted at these times and dates at participating churches:

• Grace United Methodist Church, 2 Neosho St.: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, 4 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 7, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Emporia Presbyterian Church, 802 Commercial St.: Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 6, 4 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orders are picked up at Spic ’n Span, Fourth Avenue and Merchant Sreet on Nov. 21 from 9 to 10 a.m.

Their web site says this about Food Stamps;
"The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Stamp program has been instrumental in helping Americans get back on their feet. Angel Food shares their vision to help those who need help, and has partnered with the USDA to support and accept orders using food stamps."
