Three teenagers were injured, one critically, in a two-vehicle accident that resulted in a rollover Friday afternoon at the intersection of Roads 220 and M.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff Department, the accident occurred when a passenger car collided with a tractor trailer at the intersection. When deputies arrived, they found the passenger vehicle on its top with three teenage occupants.
All three passengers were transported to area hospitals with injuries. Derek Christiani was taken to Newman Regional Health with injuries and then to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with a heart murmur. As of Saturday morning, his condition was listed as fair.
Elizabeth Dieker was taken to Newman Regional Health with neck and back pain. She was in stable condition Saturday morning.
The third passenger, Mariah Serrano, was transported by LifeTeam Helicopter to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka with severe head and chest injuries. As of Saturday morning, Serrano was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the semi was not injured.
The accident is still under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff Department.

Its amazing how small a community gets when teenagers are involved in a serious accident... So many people are praying for these three, myself included... Even people who do not know them are praying...

derek is my brother and i really hope all 3 of them turn out ok. derek is a good kid, doesn't drink or do anything of the sort, and is just a good hearted person in general. i am really hoping the serrano girl turns out ok, we just have to all remember that sometimes bad things happen even when there are no bad intentions. derek would never purposely put his life or anyone else's in danger. i spoke with him for the first time today since the wreck and he is devastated about it. he is in the hospital with 2 collapsed lungs, a broken vertebrae in his neck, a heart murmor, torn muscle around his heart, and he can't sit up straight even for a few minutes without vomiting, but worst of all he just feels terrible about the whole thing. my thoughts are with him, and also the dieker and serrano families, as i cannot be there to support my family since i'm in the military. everyone please keep them all in your thoughts and hearts.
