Hornet families offer support

Saturday, May 30, 2009

Cary, N.C. — A championship today would mean a lot to the Emporia State players and coaches, but it would mean just as much to the people in the stands.

The Hornets have been one of the best-represented teams at the World Series this week. Parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, girlfriends, aunts and uncles have made the trip — some choosing to fly, some making the long drive from Kansas or Tennessee.

For parents of the most of the 11 seniors, this could be the last time they get to see their sons play competitive baseball, and it’s a moment they couldn’t pass up.

“There was never a hesitation not to come,” said Richard Williamson, who drove the 20-hour trip with his wife and daughter to watch his son Caleb Williamson. “The only hesitation not to come would have been if the team didn’t come.”
