Nancy LeClear’s followed in her parents footsteps into the medical profession and into the family’s tradition of service at Newman Regional Health.
LeClear, a registered nurse, retired from Newman Regional Health earlier this year as the director of marketing and education. LeClear’s roots were planted at Newman before she was born. Her parents attended the nursing school. Her mother, Nadine Hopper, started nursing training in 1935. Her father, Charles Hopper, came to Emporia in 1936 for nurses training. The two met at the school and received permission to “date” at the Newman nurses’ house. Dating previously had been forbidden for students in the nursing school. LeClear’s father lived above a garage near Newman because male nurses — a rarity then — were not allowed to live in the nurses’ home, LeClear said.

Nancy LeClear was a wonderful marketing person for NRH and it sounds like she still is! A fabulous motivational speaker and a gentle person. I got to interact w/ Dr. Hopper and really enjoyed his stories. I also enjoyed seeing the loving care and tenderness that Nancy directed towards her parents. Nancy, I will miss you! However; I lost my job at NRH so I probably wont't be seeing you much now.
