First ‘Smokestock’ to provide barbecue fun for all

A unique event will take place in Emporia’s Peter Pan Park June 13. It’s called “Smokestock: Peace, Love & BBQ” and it’s being presented by Waters True Value Hardware of Emporia.
Waters is a licensed dealer for The Good-One Grill, which is manufactured in Burns and sold nationally. This off-set grill is versatile, good for barbecuing as well as smoking. Owners of Good-One grills from across the region will come and compete for prizes as a part of Smokestock, somewhat like the phenomenon called “Eggfest” and held by owners of The Big Green Egg.
“This is the first time we’ve done this — the first Smokestock in the nation.” said Mark Shook, owner of Waters True Value and organizer of the event. “We are working in conjunction with Ace of Hearts BBQ Specialties to have a great, family-friendly event where people can see different grills at work, sample different kinds of barbecue, listen to music and enjoy a day in the park.”
Monday is the early deadline for persons who want to cook at Smokestock; however, registrations will be taken up to the morning of the event. The cost to register is $10, and participants should bring their own grill, supplies and meats.
