Energy U-16 finishes 4th at Council Grove

The Emporia Energy U-16 softball team kicked off its season by finishing in fourth place in the Council Grove Invitational last weekend.
The Energy opened its season with a 9-2 win over the Manhattan Rebels, with Sarah Lewis pitching three innings for the win. Despite Amanda Crone surrendering just two earned runs in Game Two, Emporia lost to the Wichita Aces 6-3, then opened bracket play against the Rebels with a 3-1 win. Taylor Heins went the distance and got the win.
Kansas Elite beat the Energy 13-0 in Emporia’s next game, dropping the Energy into the third-place game. The Aces won that game 5-3 in eight innings.
Amanda Belford had eight hits for the Energy in the tournament, and Alice Tunks-Jones, Jennifer Alfaro and Lewis each had four.
