As the only senior on Chase County’s baseball team, Greg Davis is the first player in Bulldog history to make it to the State tournament four years in a row. He’s also the only Bulldog player who’s had to experience the same frustration for three years running: the Bulldogs getting to the Class 2-1A State tournament, only to get knocked out by St. Marys in the first round.
It happened in 2006, 2007 and again last year, when St. Marys won by a 9-7 score. This year, the streak is finally over. Chase County is back at Soden’s Grove this weekend for another crack at a State title. St. Marys is not.
“It was kind of a relief not seeing them (on the bracket), because playing the same team four years in a row gets kind of old,” Davis said. “Three years gets kind of old — we weren’t really looking forward to it last year. But I mean, Colgan’s a good team — I’m kind of excited to play ’em, actually. I’ve never played ’em before. It’ll be a good game.”
