Despite each of Emporia High’s three golfers shooting at or in the neighborhood of their personal goals at the Class 5A State tournament, each one’s post-tourney assessment of his performance featured some form of “I could’ve done better.”
It’s likely that the nice weather and slew of impressive scores carded Tuesday at Emporia Municipal Golf Course had something to do with their perspective.
Spartan seniors Zach Young, Craig Morgan and Caleb Chiroy finished their EHS careers on their home course Tuesday. Young, who was hoping to shoot a 77 and was at least hoping to end up somewhere in the 70s, fired a 79. Morgan hit his mid-80s goal right on the button, shooting an 85, and State first-timer Chiroy, who wanted to shoot somewhere in the 80s, did so with an 87.
