The good-one grill certainly is

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

As many of you may recall, my sweetie Andy and I became certified Kansas City Barbecue Society barbecue judges last year. Our travels to area competitions have really opened up an entire world of foodies that we knew existed, but must be experienced first hand to appreciate.

We’ve been to Garnett, McPherson, Burlington, Lenexa, Osage City, El Dorado, Kansas City and — of course — Emporia, sampling competition barbecue. It’s been tons of fun seeing different parts of the state, and tasting smoked meats prepared with love and care.

We’ve seen a whole lot of grills out there, from rows of kettle smokers to off-set grills to custom made varieties — even a series of 50-gallon steel drums. One that we do see a lot of is the off-set design of The Good-One grill, which is available locally at Waters True Value.

MARK’S GRILLED CAKE

1 box yellow cake mix

2/3 of a 20 oz. bottle of Sprite

2 cups frozen fruit

cinnamon, sugar, honey

Mark says to pour the cake mix into a cake pan or casserole that will take the heat. Stir in the Sprite, and dump in the frozen fruit, giving that a final stir. Smoke it for an hour to 90 minutes at about 250 to 275 degrees. Take the cake out, sprinkle the top with cinnamon, sugar and honey to your taste and enjoy!

Mark says you can vary the recipe however you like. How about a chocolate cake mix with raspberries? Or a spice cake mix with stone fruits? Sounds great to me!

Nice ad.

Actually, The Good One is a nice grill. However, for the money, their are better deals, even among competition cookers.

Obviously he has never used the Big Green Egg grill/smoker. It has to be the best grill I have ever used HANDS DOWN

Everyone's tastes are different - I don't think I could ever give up my Weber!
