A department of The Teachers College received two grants recently to help practicing teachers with professional development.
The Jones Institute for Educational Excellence secured one $300,000 three-year grant from the Kansas State Department of Education for $100,000/year to provide summer workshops for math teachers. Jones Distinguished Professor Bob Winkler and ESU mathematics professor Marvin Harrell are the content specialists doing the training.
The second grant is a $450,000 three-year grant from the Kansas Board of Regents for $150,000/year and will be a joint effort for ESU and Fort Hays State University faculty members. ESU faculty members involved are Emily Eicke and Matt Seimears. This grant is to provide middle school science teachers instruction on physical sciences education.
Both grants will fund summer workshops and provide on-site follow up training during the academic year for the participants.
