Zach Young made the dunk. Being 6-foot-8, it’s easy for him.
Then, on the way down, he got tackled, and the bigger they are... you know the rest.
“I was falling backwards, and I had to support myself,” he said. “And it just buckled.”
“It” was Young’s left wrist, and it had just been broken in a rec league game. The potential implications of that incident hit Young right away.
“All I said after I broke it,” he said, “is, ‘There goes my golf season.’”
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. The Emporia High senior did his physical therapy, made his way back after missing the beginning of the season, and now he and two of his fellow Spartan seniors, Craig Morgan and Caleb Chiroy, will have home-course advantage at the Class 5A State tournament on Tuesday at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.
