The former Elmdale Elementary and high schools will get a facelift and restoration to make way for an organization that is coming to town.
Both buildings have been abandoned for years and are crumbling. Water damage is evident in both buildings but both are salvageable and representatives from Christian Mission Ministry are doing just that. They are taking the old buildings and restoring them so their organization can move in and have headquarters in Elmdale. The ministry also has purchased the five acres of apple and peach trees in Elmdale.
Janna Hancock and Angie Clopton are working together on the project to restore the buildings for the Christian Mission Ministry. The ministry is listed as a non-profit business in Kansas through the Kansas Business Center and was formed in Kansas on May 21, 2007, according to www.kansas.gov. The ministry itself has been in existence for about 30 years, Hancock, who is a founding member, said. The business had an office in Emporia but the lease was up and they decided to settle in Elmdale after the former elementary and high schools became available. Originally the ministry was solely a prison ministry but has since branched out into other ministries.
