Pats on the Back

Friday, May 22, 2009

Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. Give these folks a pat on the back ...

JUDY LOHMEYER, who opened her new business, Eclectic Catering, at 7 E. Sixth Ave.

• Dennis Charbonneau, who was hired as Emporia High School’s new wrestling coach. Charbonneau previously coached at Clay Center, where he won four state titles.

• The Emporia State University baseball team, which advanced to the NCAA division II World Series.

• Shalla and Robert Bennett, who will open a new children’s clothing store in downtown Emporia this summer. PunkinDoodles will be at 725 Commercial St. and will be open in August.

• Rick Ginter, Aron Dody, Steve Mollach and Bill Leffler, who had to kiss farm animals because Americus Elementary School students reached fund-raising goals. Ginter had to kiss a donkey, Dody kissed a pig, Mollach kissed a calf and Leffler kissed a goat.
