When Roger and Linda Buffum moved to Emporia to open the Commercial Street Diner, they were looking to live life in a simpler key.
Much has changed in the 15 years since then, but the diner, at 614 Commercial St., remains in business, still a fixture of downtown Emporia. And despite setbacks — Linda, Roger’s wife, died in April — Roger Buffum is satisfied with life as a restaurant owner.
“The people of Emporia have been good to us,” Buffum said. “And Lyon County. We have a lot of folks come in from all around.”

Too bad the daily disappointment cut off the article in midstream. Roger, Linda and their staff took good care of customers for many years. Rest in peace, Linda.
