Free breakfasts and lunches will be offered to children 18 years old and younger during the summer at several school locations in Emporia as part of the federal Summer Food Service Program.
The federally funded program was created by Congress to ensure all children have access to nutritious meals during the summer when school is not in session.
Starting Tuesday, May 26, breakfast and lunch will be served at Logan Avenue, Riverside, Timmerman, Walnut, William Allen White schools and Emporia Middle School. Emporia High School will be added as a meal location starting June 2 and Lowther North Intermediate School will be added to the list June 29.
Breakfast will be served at 7:15 a.m. at EMS, 7:30 a.m. at EHS and 8:30 a.m. at the other meal sites. Lunch will be served at 11:15 a.m. at EHS and 11:30 a.m. at the other locations. All meals must be eaten at the school site.
The meals program ends July 24 at EHS and LNIS and on July 31 at the other locations.
Menus are posted on the district web site, www.usd253.org, and broadcast on Channel 8 during Emporia Public School announcements at 7:30 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. Menus also are published every Saturday in The Gazette.
