Chase County

beats Heights

The Chase County and Northern Heights baseball teams ended their regular seasons Friday with a rain-shortened game at Chase County, which the Bulldogs won by a 9-7 score in four innings.

Chase County scored seven runs in its half of the third inning, which offset the five runs Heights had scored in its turn at bat. James Crabtree had an RBI double during Heights’ third, and Cody Britton followed with a three-run homer off relief pitcher Jace Francka to give the Wildcats a 7-2 lead. But in the bottom of the inning, Brandon Line stroked an RBI triple for the Bulldogs to score Greg Davis, and then Jim Lauer brought him home with an RBI single. Tyler Mullins hit a two-run double, and Shawn Talkington blasted a two-run homer to center.

Talkington had three hits for Chase County, Lauer had two and both drove in two runs. Line and Mullins also each had two RBIs apiece. Chase County finished the regular season 14-5 and is the top seed in its Class 2-1A regional; the Bulldogs will play at 2 p.m. Tuesday against the winner of today’s Little River-Moundridge game. Heights (4-13) plays at Rock Creek at 5 p.m. today in its first game in the Class 3A Council Grove regional.
