Car show draws 130 vehicles for display

Monday, May 18, 2009

Saturday started off cool and breezy but turned into a perfect day for a car show.

There were 117 registered cars, trucks and motorcycles at the Flinthills Mall Saturday afternoon for the 16th annual Emporia Flatland Cruisers Car Show. Along with Emporia Flatland Cruisers club members, there were about 130 vehicles on display at the mall, some from as far away as Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas and Minnesota.

In addition to the display of the cars, the day was completed with with a cruise night at the mall.

The show traditionally is held at Soden’s Grove, but had to be moved to the mall this year because of the recent flooding.

Winner of the Best in Show category was a black and silver 1933 Ford Coupe owned by Jack and Kathy Whatley of Enid, Okla.

The Emporia Flatland Cruisers car club promotes the preservation and restoration of cars, trucks, motorcycles and special-interest vehicles. The organization raises money and donates it to the community by giving to charities, persons and families in need.
