Emporia businessman Dan Tebbetts died of cancer Friday afternoon at his home.
Tebbetts had been diagnosed as having bladder cancer last year and had undergone treatment that shrunk the tumor to an operable size. When doctors performed surgery to remove it, however, they discovered the cancer had spread to his stomach.
A series of fundraisers was planned beginning in April to raise funds to pay for the aggressive chemotherapy recommended, because Tebbetts and his wife, Jennell, had exhausted their funds during treatment of the bladder cancer.
Friends organized two car give-aways — one for a 1992 Geo Metro convertible and another for a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro — plus a concert, food sales, and rides on the miniature train at Soden’s Grove. Sertoma Club donated the train’s use for the fundraiser.
The 1992 Metro was given away in a drawing earlier; tickets continue to be sold for the drawing for the Camaro.
Tebbetts owned D&T Auto Sales and Emporia Brake & Muffler, 1806 W. Sixth Ave.
Funeral arrangements and a complete obituary will be announced by Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
