Two Emporia Police officers were honored today for actions at a fire in 2008.
Kelly Davis and Tanner Monhollon were honored by the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police Friday. They received the Gold Award of Valor, which is the top award given by the association. They received the award because of their actions in the Jan. 15, 2008, fire at 603 Valley Drive. When the officers arrived they saw smoke coming from the top floor. The officers entered the home and carried one person to safety who was trapped on the top level. The other people in the home also were assisted and escorted outside.
