Emporia High divers finished second, fourth and fifth at the Centennial League diving competition on Thursday at EHS, putting the Spartans one point behind Manhattan in the team scores entering today’s League swimming competition.
Senior Carissa Schmitz earned a second-place finish at her final home meet with a score of 333.45. Chelsey Kessler finished fourth at 310.30, and Madison Reiber earned fifth place at 276.70. All three recorded personal bests.
“They were hitting dives really well,” EHS diving coach Barbara Clark said. “... Madison, she’s coming back from an ankle (injury), and she just came back this week. So she wasn’t able to really press too hard on the board, but she fought through it, and I thought she did a really good job. I think she was happy with herself, and then we changed... one dive, really, with Chelsey, because she hit (her heels on) the board this week, left a little bit of skin on the board this time. ...
“Overall, I think they all did a super-good job. It’s a good thing for Carissa going into the State meet, just a little bit more confidence and stuff.”
EHS has 46 team points entering today’s swimming action at 4 p.m., and Manhattan has 47. Lisa Allen won the league diving title for the Indians with a score of 369.60; Katie Van Nevel finished third with a score of 324.90 and Rachel Landers was eighth at 247.30.
