EAC exhibit

The Emporia Arts Council is presenting an exhibition, J. Warren Brinkman: Retrospective and Bill Brinkman: “Large Footprints,” through June 15, 2009, at the gallery, 618 Mechanic St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday or by appointment. Spring production

“Sondra Burden’s Studio of Fine Arts” will present the annual spring production at 7 p.m. May 28 at Albert Taylor Hall. Admission is $4 and the public is invited to attend.

The production will finish off the popular High School Musical series with a performance of “HS MUSICAL 3” — the story of Troy, Gabriella and friends going on to college. Characters are Troy, portrayed by Justin Richardson; Gabriella, Geneva Anders; Sharpay, Victoria Edwards; Kelsi, Cassie Slaymaker; and Ryan, Delano Mendoza. Other students in the show are Bridgett Hopkins, Tarah Pierson, Elliot Sherwood, Austin Hogan and Taylor Mayers. Choreography is by Delano Mendoza.

There also will be songs from “Chicago” and “Camp Rock.” Singers are Kayla Schemm-Lee, Tarah Pierson, Whitney VanArsdale, Garrett VanArsdale, Taylor Rich, Sydney Ellen Steinlage, Bailey Estes, Peyton Johnson, Sydney Stone, Hunter Gilbert and Noah Williams.

The students will perform at Branson May 29-June 1 at “Legends,” “Broadway,” “Pierce Arrow” and the “Dixie Stampede.”

Art fair

Artists from this area will exhibit their art work at the Mulvane Art Museum 17th annual Mountain/Plains Art Fair June 6 and 7 on the Washburn University campus in Topeka. Included are artists from Emporia, Cecil and Lisa McKenzie, blown glass, and Conrad Wempe, wood furniture; Thomas Birchard of Madison, jewelry; and Gabriel Stoner and Michael Hatton of Osage City, mobiles. Ninety-nine artists from across the country will have displays. The fair also will feature musical entertainment, a hands-on art activity for children and a food and beverage court. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 6 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7. Admission is $6 at the gate; children under 12 are admitted free of charge. This is an annual fundraising event organized by the Friends of the Mulvane Art Museum with proceeds used to support the museum’s education programs for children. Students from Northern Heights High School took home awards from the Flint Hills League art show last month at Lyndon. Medals were awarded to:

• Taylor Harmon, jewelry, silver;

• Cody Wood, modified curriculum, silver;

• Kaylee Hatch, sculpture, gold; 3D, best of show;

• Madison Mitchell, fibers, silver;

• Olivia Johnson, fibers, bronze.

Bryan Adams will perform in a solo-acoustic concert tour at 8 p.m. June 5 at the Orpheum Theatre in Wichita.
