Athletic trainers
The Kansas Athletic Trainers’ Society (KATS) has recognized undergraduate athletic training students who have distinguished themselves through outstanding academic achievement in accredited Athletic Training Education programs in the state of Kansas. Those attending Emporia State University who received 1st Team All-Academic honors for 2008 were Suzanne Crawford of Emporia and Blaise Kriley of Stockton. These students are juniors or above and have achieved a 3.80-4.00 KATS Honors average.
Receiving 2nd Team All-Academic honors for 2008 were Phillip Buttrey of Council Grove who attends Kansas Wesleyan University and Andrew Hawkins of Silver Lake, Daniel O’Connell of Lawrence and Corey Wright of Olathe, who all attend Emporia State University. These students are juniors or above and have achieved a combined minimum 3.60-4.00 KATS Honors average.
Those from this area who received Honorable Mention All-Academic honors were Rachael Bachman of Emporia who attends Bethel College and Meghan Cole of Olpe who attends the University of Kansas. Students attending Emporia State University who received Honorable Mention were Jesse Divilbiss of Solomon, Mark Hinton of Olathe, Daniel Quillin of DeSoto and Heather Wheeler of Maple Hill. These students are sophomores or above and have a combined minimum of 3.40-4.00 KATS Honors average.
The students will receive a Certificate of Achievement and public recognition at an annual KATS business meeting.
Architecture award
Omar Herrera of Emporia, fourth-year Kansas State University architecture student, recently received third place in the black-and-white category of the K-State College of Architecture annual photography competition of which there were 103 entries. Herrera also was awarded $75.
WSU scholarship
Dylan Gutierrez of Emporia has received a Wichita State University $10,000 scholarship in engineering over four years. Gutierrez, a graduate of Emporia High School, will study engineering at WSU in the fall of 2009.
Washburn graduates
Students from this area at Washburn University in Topeka who are candidates for summer 2009 graduation include Carly Durham of Emporia, associate’s degree in radiologic technology and allied health, Irina Sosa-Cortinas of Emporia, bachelor’s degree in health science and health services administration, cum laude, and Andrew Roland of Emporia, bachelor’s degree in public administration, summa cum laude, political science; Nicole Ziegler of Allen, associate’s degree in radiologic technology; Laura Davis of Madison, associate’s degree, physical therapist assistant and allied health; and Janet Dorathy of Olpe, associate’s degree in radiologic technology and allied health. Commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday.
