Hornets thump Angelo State in regional opener

WARRENSBURG, MO. — Emporia State opened the South Central Regional tournament with a 23-0 win over Angelo State on Thursday.
Kevin Wempe and Kenny Burkhead both had five hits, seven RBIs and a home run to lead the Hornets to the blowout victory.
ESU had 24 hits and scored 19 runs with two outs.
ESU starter Colby Killian pitched six shutout innings, scattering four hits.
Emporia State plays the winner of the Nebraska-Omaha and Abilene Christian on Friday at 7 p.m.
