Wasinger headquarters

Rob Wasinger, Republican candidate for Congress in the 1st Congressional District of Kansas, announced Tuesday the opening of his campaign headquarters in Cottonwood Falls.

“Opening my campaign headquarters is a key organizational step and will allow my campaign to continue an aggressive grassroots, issue-based campaign,” said Wasinger. “I look forward to opening regional offices in the future to help spread my message of bringing economic prosperity to western Kansas while ensuring our way of life.”

Wasinger is currently touring all 69 counties of the “Big First,” and recently launched his Kansans for Wasinger Leadership Team.

Wasinger is a native of Hays and has served Kansas as a former staffer to then-State Senate Majority Leader Jerry Moran, Gov. Bill Graves, and most recently as chief-of-staff to U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback.

Senior Olympics

Residents of Flint Hills area care centers will take part in the annual Senior Olympics beginning at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Flinthills Mall, 1600 Industrial Road.

The olympics competitions are part of National Nursing Home Week activities.

Four events are planned, according to Ronda Allison and Cindy Weltha, activities co-directors at Holiday Resort. Care center residents will compete in wheelchair races, horseshoe pitching, beanbag toss and bowling.

Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three winners in each event.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the event.
