Pair rescued from water

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

Lyon County Sheriff’s officers and Hartford Fire Department volunteers were called out during the noon hour on Monday to rescue two people who were stranded in flood water outside Neosho Rapids.

According to Deputy Jacob Welsh, Rick Lane, 52, and Courtney Cochran, 23, had driven from their home in the 1700 block of Road 150 to get supplies in Hartford.

When they tried to return to their home, the SUV they were in became stuck in three feet of water in the 1900 block of Road 145.

The situation was called in to sheriff’s dispatchers at 12:17 p.m. Monday.

Hartford Fire Department personnel managed to reach the vehicle and push it to dry land. No one was injured.

The road was flooded by the Neosho River, which has been out of its banks as a result of recent heavy rains.
