Importance of truth

IF THERE WERE no lying, what a different life we would have!!!
One rotten apple spoils the whole bushel. Our rottenness goes down to future generations in our own families. What we do in each family affects our entire society.
If we don’t lie, we lead a more productive life. We would save a lot of distractions by being truthful.
Let’s measure up.

And pretty much most of our media nowadays. Downplaying some things while overplaying others, when they are essentially equal, is just as bad a distortion of the truth as an outright lie. Just because a Dem does something doesn't make it somehow 10 times better than when a Repub does it, and visa versa. And the media shouldn't spin it that way either.

How is BJ's comment invalid? I like people who challenge leaders. Can Pelosi answer the questions regarding her authorization of enhanced interrogation techniques (EITs) by proxy years ago even though she finds it politically expedient to decry them now? Can Harry Reid explain his numerous positions on issues and clear record of partisan politics in the senate? Can Tim Geithner explain how a guy in charge of taxing all of us forgets to pay his fair share of taxes on time? Can Barney Frank explain his train wreck style of management regarding the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? I think BJ showed restraint when he didn't call Chris "Countrywide" Dodd to the carpet along with Frank. Finally Robert Gibbs. I have not seen a guy less comfortable in his own skin since Al Gore. I don't think he is a liar, just in WAAAAAAAAAY over his head. The guy gets the bends on Mt. Everest.
So tell me staunch libs. Criticism of the party in power is only OK if you are not in power? I would prefer if the people that voted for a candidate were the hardest on the candidate. Not just main lining the kool aid. No more so than conservatives that think Bush was right about expanding Meidcare or increasing the percentage of loans made by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to people who could not repay them to 52% during his administration. Get over your partisan garbage and understand that politicians stopped caring about the majority of us decades ago. We elected Obozo and I have yet to be impressed by the dazzling urbanite. I was minimally impressed with W. At the very least he knew how to treat a terrorist.

But the topic is liars....and your failure to even mention Dubya, Lon, and Rummy takes your lofty sounding claim of non-partiasanship and throws it out the window.
So I guess you can go join your buddy Bjinemp in the troll line.

Biscuit,
I wasn't responding to you. You asked him to add the republican lackeys so I felt like the point didn't need elaboration or clarification. Goodoleboy dismissed BJ's desire to send the letter to the less than credible democratic luminaries and labeled BJ as a "forum troll". Most likely because of a difference in political and cultural ideology. I simply asked how his comment was invalid. Still no reasonable, rational or logical answer to my question or the questions contained in the narrative. Just dismissive name calling.
Please read and comprehend the thread, then develop a reasoned position before trying to engage me in debate. Name calling simply will not do. Although it is a valid tactic when you have absolutely nothing to add to the conversation.

Was it a lie or bad intelligence that was hand-picked thru? Seems some "inside" intelligence came from ex-Iraqi's who WANTED the US to take out Saddam - wouldn't it be more prudent to say that THEY are the ones that lied, and W made some biased choices on who he believed? Who should be believed or wanted to believe in? Or DID they lie? I notice the report mentioned here did not rule out the possibility that things had been shipped to Syria..... so exactly what "things" would those have been?
As far as "Mission Accomplished".... I fail to understand how that is a lie. I've seen some rah-rahing and cheering on here that the stock market has turned around, 401K's are starting to recover..... BUT..... if the economy turns around (in the future) and tanks again...... am I going to be able to apply the same logic and claim that all you then....... "lied" ???? Or was it just that your assumption at the time turned out in the future to be wrong?

Nobody ever mentions what Saddam did before.... the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, killed, tortured.... gassing his own villages.... 17 UN resolutions ignored.... the billions scammed in Oil-For-Food..... so, what's the scale balance here? Is it all just about whether we found WMD's? If not for those, should action still have been taken? What's the exchange rate..... 25 Iraqi lives = 1 US/ally life? Or does it matter? Do we just always sit by the sidelines and watch havoc unless it directly affects us? I'm sure someone is going to scream "oil" now, but please also supply a link showing where we're getting free oil as a result, thanks. Some people think we should be doing something to stop the hundreds of thousands of innocents being slaughtered in Darfur, but have any of those horseback terrorists rode into the US & harmed anyone yet? If we intervened, and 5 soldiers & 20 innocent lives were lost, but the slaughter of a quarter of a million was stopped, was it worth it? Hard questions...... No, the slaughter in Iraq hasn't stopped, its just been replaced. And some people predicted that, some people thought the opposite. We can never know. My hindsight is nearly as perfect as everyone elses.
But then again, I'm predicting bad things for our economic future based on what we're doing now. But I need to just get with the program, give things a chance, and quit sounding like "the party of NO" and Rush Limbaugh.
Sounds alot like what we heard 5 years ago, does it not? If you complained then, why is it suddenly wrong to complain now? Oh, because lives are being lost.... right...... so, if you can show me your crystal ball of how many Iraqi's would have continued to be killed by Saddam, how many starved under the Oil-For-Food scandal, and work out your own personal exchange rate, be it 10 Iraqis = 1 US, or whatever rate you prefer, then we can compare notes and figure out what would have been the best course for history to have taken. Wish we could police the whole world and right every wrong, but we can't. However.... given what is happening in Iran..... it may turn out in the near future.... that having alot of forces in next-door Iraq...... surrounded on both sides..... just might turn out to be what saves millions, if not billions, of lives.
Or not. Who knows.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,1...
"The report implicitly absolves the Bush administration of manipulating the intelligence used to launch the 2003 Iraq war, putting the blame for bad intelligence directly on the intelligence community..........
The daily intelligence briefings given to you before the Iraq war were flawed," the report said.........
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld (search) said he asked Pentagon officials responsible for intelligence activities to "undertake a systematic review of the commission's recommendations, and make suggestions to me for improvements."..........
"The central conclusion is one which I share. America's intelligence community needs fundamental change," Bush said after receiving the report...........
He said he had directed Fran Townsend, his White House-based homeland security adviser, to "review the commission's finding and to assure that concrete actions are taken."..........
But there was no indication that spy agencies distorted the evidence, a charge raised against the administration during last year's presidential campaign...............
But overall, it delivered a harsh verdict. "Our intelligence community has not been agile and innovative enough to provide the information that the nation needs," the commission said, noting that other investigations have reached similar conclusions............
The panel also examined the ability of the intelligence community to accurately assess the risk posed by America's foes...........
On Al Qaeda (search), the commission found that the intelligence community was surprised by the terrorist network's advances in biological weapons, particularly a virulent strain of a disease that the report keeps secret, identifying it only as "Agent X." The discovery of Al Qaeda's work came only after the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan removed the Taliban from power................
"Al Qaeda's biological program was further along, particularly with regard to Agent X, than prewar intelligence indicated," the report says.........

Well, I really didn't want to get in on this ! But, against my better judgement, here goes and please be gentle !
First of all every one lies, but denies it when caught in the lie !
Second, there is no such thing as bipartisanship in politics and government !
3rdly, it makes no difference which party or lack of party is in power in politics or government ! When an individual or particular party is elected and in power, no-matter who or what it happens to be the little man/woman is quickly forgotten and the only agenda that takes priority is how to abscound with as much money as possible, for as long as possible, without getting caught, PERIOD !
Nothing else seems to be of much importance and has been this way for a long, long time now !
As I said at the beginning of this post, BE GENTLE, for I know I have probably stepped on many toes !

Since their are those who seem to condone the use of torture by the U.S./ us, does that mean that you also condone the torture of U.S. citizens/soldiers, etc., by other countries ?
I personally believe that the abuse and torture of any living creature of GOD is morally wrong, and it makes no matter who is doing the abusing and torturing !
May 12, 2009 at 3:27 p.m. ( permalink | suggest removal )
open_eyes (anonymous) says...
This is just my honest opinion regarding "torture", or what we currently define it to be. First, I think war itself is morally wrong. Should be outlawed. But, in the real world where I reside, sometimes unpleasant actions need to be taken. I don't condone torture of US citizens by other countries, but in case nobody has noticed, those we are fighting with live by no such creed. Watch the "last" Daniel Pearl video and get back to me on morals.
I also think that, no matter what laws are passed, no matter what is revealed, no matter who is in power - somewhere in the world, hidden away, concealed...... information is going to be extracted in unpleasant ways from those who have no problem whatsoever with strapping a bomb on and walking into a school of innocent kindergarteners and detonating themselves. They do not respect laws or agreements, they could care less about respect (only for themselves), right or wrong - only their goals. They will sign whatever they need to sign to achieve their ends, and then laugh and ignore it totally (as we are witnessing in Pakistan). So all the fine and dandy talk about morals only comes down to who is breathing the next day and who is not, when it comes right down to it. Which would you prefer, if you had your choice: waterboarded, or killed? Does that mean it is more "morally" correct to put an enemy in your rifle sights and pull the trigger and blow his brains out than it is to waterboard someone, with no permanent physical harm done to them? No, I'm not suggesting electric shock, beating, pulling out fingernails, etc....... but I am saying that at times stronger methods need to be used to those who respect nothing but strength. Something stronger than saying your grandma wears combat boots. And methods done under medical supervision that in no way cause any permanent harm to someone, I'm not sure that qualifies as torture any more than having to sit and watch Olbermann agree that everyone who marched in a Tea Party is a Racist. They both make me think I'm drowning - one in water, the other in ignorance.
So we've got people on both sides, some saying waterboarding worked, those on the other side are finally admitting yes it worked but claim they could have or would have gotten the evidence eventually without it. Are they sure? What if the clock is ticking and thousands of lives are at stake? Like I postulated before, if I watched a family member being beheaded, and had 24 hours before another member got the same treatment, and had someone in my custody who knew where they were........ I'm not gonna play tiddly-winks with them. This is WAR. Trying to fight a war (kill people) and stay morally correct is a pretty narrow razor to have to walk on edge-wise and barefoot. I've read the Bible. And I've also read what happened during WAR.... in the Bible..... by those who were "morally in the right".....
May 12, 2009 at 3:45 p.m. ( permalink | suggest removal )
open_eyes (anonymous) says...
And just for the record, I would prefer to be waterboarded over being killed any day. Even though it is somehow less morally correct than just being shot in the head by a sniper rifle.
Morality is a funny thing these days. It used to be killing even an unborn fetus was considered "immoral". Now you're "immoral" (intolerant crazy right wing nut) if you're against it.
I can't keep up these days with the "shifting sands of morality".

Obama Orders Continuation Of Illegal CIA Renditions
http://www.infowars.net/articles/febr...
These are the parts that really cracked me up: :)
===================================
Claude Moraes, a British Labour MEP who was part of the European committee investigating CIA renditions, said it was hard to criticise Mr Obama because he had "god-like status at the moment........
The "god like status" that Mr Moraes speaks of is highlighted by the response of Human Rights Watch, the global oversight organization. Despite vehemently opposing Bush-era secret detentions facilities and torture tactics HRW seemingly supports Obama's decision to allow rendition to continue.
"Under limited circumstances, there is a legitimate place" for renditions, Tom Malinowski, the Washington advocacy director for Human Rights Watch, told the Los Angeles Times.........
Illegal kidnapping and imprisonment is abhorrent when George W. Bush is the cowboy commander in chief but if the new messiah says it's OK then that's just dandy huh?
So much for last month's headlines that read Barack Obama’s new CIA boss signals end of waterboarding and rendition.
Of course, as evidenced recently by several researchers and journalists, Obama's much lauded declaration to "ban" torture and his commitment to close down detention facilities are chocked full of loopholes and hidden clauses designed to allow such practices and premises to be continued.
Prominent human rights lawyers, as well as The European Parliament have declared rendition illegal under international law. In late 2007, the U.S. House voted to end CIA renditions, however, the prohibition was never passed in the Senate.
(Gosh, now who controlled the Senate in 2007? Since many here claim that it is the US Constitution that declares what is legal and what is not..... since Congress didn't ban it..... does that mean it was legal for us to do it?)
===================================
Where are the protestors carrying signs comparing Obama to Hitler? I wasn't one of those before...... and I'm not one of them now. Just pointing out the uncomfortable truth to those in constant denial.

Good for Donald Trump. He came out and said about Miss California's views about gay marriage: "It's the same answer that the president of the United States gave,” "....
So..... let's see.... Perez Hilton called her a dumb b....
Olbermann had a guest that likened her to a Nazi doll....needed a brain transplant...
So-called "feminist" Gloria Feldt said on Fox that she needed a heart transplant instead of breast implants.
So let me get this right: Since these were all solely leveled at her because of her answer, and its the same view held by Obama, according to the left,...
Obama is a dumb b....
Obama is a Nazi doll who needs a brain transplant.
Obama needs a heart transplant.

Taking responsibility for your lies, action, etc., especially in politics and government, is and has never been a top priority in politics, government and especially in our elected government and its elected officials and changing this cancer in government is next to impossible !

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck? Here is a little test that will help you decide.
The answer can be found by posing the following question:
You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you.
You are carrying a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or opressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the pistol have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.

Allintogether,
Just view a few of BJ's posts, you'll see real quick why he is a troll. No substance, just flame bait. Need me to link a few for you?

Good Zinger, crack! :)
I didn't write the joke, I just passed it along. Although I would have personally changed Dem to lib & Repub to conserv. I'm with you - I would have shot for the knees first...... only after that I probably would have spent the rest of my life in jail because the fanatic fruitcake got an expert lawyer skilled at manipulating the American Justice System against itself. If the assailant was a woman, the National Organization for Women would have first asked the assailant if they were pro-choice. If so, they would have uhm.... done terrible things to me for violating that woman's rights of "free expression". If not, they would have sided with me and called her a Nazi doll akin to Miss California or Palin. The ACLU would have been all over me I'm sure either way, especially if the assailant was in the country illegally.
But I'd still be waterboarding the person until the authorities arrived and pulled me off if they had harmed one hair of my family to find out where their accomplice ran off to. Instead of beating the living p*** out of them. Because beating them might do permanent damage to them, so I consider that to be torture :)
