Budget on agenda

Monday, May 11, 2009

A lengthy agenda has been prepared for the Emporia board of education meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mary Herbert Education Center, 1700 W. Seventh Ave.

The board will hear a budget update, as well as a report on restructuring the Emporia Recreation Commission budget and the cases and campaigns for USD 253 report. The latter will be presented by a class from Emporia State University that did a marketing campaign for the district.

Among the action items listed for the meeting are adopting the Emporia Middle School health and wellness curriculum and approving the EMS Spanish curriculum. The board also will be asked to adopt textbooks for the classes.

The curriculum report will be on middle-level mathematics.

An executive session is scheduled to discuss contract negotiations for certified staff members.

The board also will consider hiring staff members for summer maintenance jobs, in addition to several appointments for teaching jobs across the district. Resignations also have been submitted from Greg Buckbee, technology education at Emporia High School; Susan Buckbee, interrelated class at Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative; Betsy Martling, mathematics at EHS; and Mayra Mezquita, teacher aid at Maynard.
