Emporia High had six placing performances at a track meet on Friday at Shawnee Mission North, the Spartans’ final meet before League, Regionals and State.
Sophomores Brandon Gentz and Sarah Kolmer each posted the Spartans’ highest finish. Gentz finished fourth in the long jump, jumping 21 feet, 3.75 inches, and also placed in the men’s triple jump, finishing seventh. Kolmer earned a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 37-3.75.
Junior Mark Kolmer recorded a fifth-place performance in the boys javelin, putting up a throw of 179-8. The Spartans’ remaining two placings were both seventh-place performances. Junior Cory Obermeyer placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles, running that race in 15.89 seconds. Sophomore Courtney Waldner ended up seventh in the high jump, jumping 4-11.
Team scores were not submitted at press time. EHS will travel to Topeka High for the Centennial League meet Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Spartans will host their Regional meet on May 22 at Welch Stadium. State is May 29 and 30 at Cessna Stadium in Wichita.
