The Madison News reported that the Madison USD 386 Board of Education entered into a letter of agreement with Hastco Construction to build a practice gym. The board came to the conclusion that a practice gym with air conditioning is possible with a $750,000 donation amount given by the DeWitt Family.
Eureka
The Eureka Herald reported that Eureka Downs will begin it’s 137th year of horse racing on Monday, May 25. This year also is the 12th anniversary of the joint cooperation between the Greenwood County Fair Association, owners of the track and the Kansas Quarter Horse Racing Association. Those two groups have been granted a license by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission to run pari-mutual live races at Eureka Downs. Due to the loss of funds and grants, the races will only run 10 days this year. The dates will begin on Memorial Day and will be on May 30, June 6, 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 and July 4. Doors will open at 11:45 a.m. with post times set for 12:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and children 15 and under are free.
