The Emporia Arts Council is presenting an exhibition, J. Warren Brinkman: Retrospective and Bill Brinkman: “Large Footprints,” through June 15, 2009. The artist reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the gallery, 618 Mechanic St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday or by appointment. Family history
“Thanks for the Memories,” a free workshop for those who are interested in the research of family history, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chase County Historical Museum in downtown Cottonwood Falls.
According to the news release, the workshop is for those who are looking for more information about proper handling of old memorabilia, the latest methods for preserving memories in scrapbooks or showing off photographs in computer presentations, how to take better photographs that will tell future generations about their ancestors and what local history and genealogical resources are available at the newly-expanded Chase County Historical Museum and Library.
There also will be a preview of Helen Rogler’s scrapbook collection about the lives of Henry and Maud Rogler and family, a display of scrapbooks assembled by local residents, a tour of the museum and library and refreshments.

Museum program
The Night at the Museum at 7 p.m. Tuesday features Katrina Ringler from the State Preservation Office. She will talk about preserving commercial properties, tax credits, grants, standards and have “before and after” photographs, stated the news release. The Lyon County Museum is at 118 E.
