The Partnership for Prescription Assistance bus made a stop in Emporia on Wednesday at the Flint Hills Community Health Center to sign people up for prescription drug assistance in the community.
The “Help Is Here Express” bus is designed to travel around the country to help uninsured and financially struggling individuals and families access information on programs that provide prescription medications that are free or low-cost. Thirty people boarded the bus in Emporia Wednesday afternoon.
“This is the 14th straight month that the unemployment rate in Kansas has risen,” a press release stated. “With the state’s unemployment rate now hitting 6.1 percent, the Partnership for Prescription Assistance is ready to help state residents who face layoffs and loss of health care benefits find programs that provide prescription medicines for free or nearly free.”
The partnership is a nationwide effort sponsored by America’s pharmaceutical research companies. It provides a single point of access to more than 475 patient-assistance programs.
Patients seeking help from the partnership may call (888) 4PPA-NOW (477-2669) or go to www.pparx.org. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes to find out if someone qualifies for free or discounted medications.
