Senior Zach Young earned a medal for Emporia High on Tuesday at the Centennial League golf tournament at Shawnee Country Club.
Young just made the cut for a top-15 medal spot, finishing 15th with a score of 83. He made three birdies on the back nine, including one on 18, to finish strong. Another EHS senior, Craig Morgan, just missed the medal cut, shooting an 84 to finish 16th.
As a team, the Spartan golfers finished seventh with a score of 350, just one stroke behind Seaman and five behind fifth-place Topeka West.
Among other Spartan golfers, Caleb Chiroy finished tied for 29th, shooting a 91; Larkin Bennett shot a 92 to finish 31st; Austin Knight carded a 97 to finish 38th; and Jared Schaefer shot a 111 to finish 57th.
Washburn Rural won the league title with a score of 318, and Shawnee Heights finished six strokes behind. Heights’ Nate Deghand won the individual title, shooting a 75.
Emporia will travel to Junction City on Thursday, then host its home tournament on May 12.
