Spartans please coach with split against Manhattan

Though flood waters held Soden’s Grove captive much of the week, the Emporia High baseball team (7-7), rather than the field, looked as though they’d been waterlogged in the first game of their doubleheader Friday night against Manhattan. EHS fell to the Indians 5-0 in the first game before coming back in a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.
Game One started as a pitching duel between Greg Rivera and Alec Giambrone with the two clubs swapping early zeros before Manhattan scored twice in the third. Two singles preceded a one-out double from Blair DeBord plating the first two runs of the game.
The Indians added two more in the sixth and scored once in the seventh, while Emporia struggled to get any offense flowing. On the night, the Spartans managed only five singles while striking out 12 times against the Manhattan starter.
