A good use

It's that time of year again. Highway 99 south has been closed because of flooding.
With all of the stimulus money seemingly pouring out of Washington right now, how about creating some jobs here in Lyon County and raise the road above the flood plain?

You guys missed the boat. Use the flood control for hydro-electric.

What they need to do is go down stream toward Hartford and take out all the duck ponds that the Flint Hills Wildlife has built. Then go a little farther and clean up the log jam at Old Strawn. Then it wouldn't flood as bad because the water could get away faster.
There is no doubt that Redman started out as flood control but has now turned into a giant sink hole for money in the name of a wildlife preserve.
It would seem that it would make some sense to pave at least the shoulder on the east side of 99 so the gravel wouldn't wash off into the ditch and fields every time this happens.

I came back to emporia this weekend for the first time in awhile and the circles are pretty useless....e town is like a ghost town not too many people around to use them...

I've seen it when they paved more of the shoulder, but the water washed all the gravel away from under the pavement. Then the pavement cracked and fell into the depression that was left. Water is powerful.

My idea is to install tubes into south Weaver St and raise it up to allow a way to town during flooding. The city has talked about a truck route before and this route could be used for that too.
