Dunlap alumni banquet

The Dunlap High School Alumni Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Community Christian Church in Council Grove. Reservations need to be sent to Ustaine Talley, 729 SW Jewell Avenue, Topeka, KS 66606, no later than May 25.

Red Hatters to gather

The Emporia Red Hatters invite all interested women to “Hats Off to Howe House” at noon May 9. The event includes a brown bag lunch, live entertainment and a tour of the historic Howe House. The main attraction will be a collection of more than 100 ladies hats which will be featured at the Howe House and Welsh Farmstead, 315 E. Logan Ave. Participants will be able to try on some hats and take photographs. Music of the 1950s and 1960s, along with bluegrass, will be provided by Richard Stone and Don Humphrey.

There is no charge for the event, but donations to the Howe House, part of the Lyon County Historical Society, will be appreciated.

The event will be held outside, except for the house tour. Those who attend are to bring their own lunch and chair. Beverages will be provided. In case of inclement weather, the event will be canceled.

Emporia Red Hatters is a group of women, especially those over 50, who meet regularly for “fun and fellowship,” stated the news release. There are no dues. Red Hatters wear purple clothing and red hats. A monthly newsletter can be picked up at the Emporia Public Library. For more information about the organization, call Linda Johnson at 343-6618.
