County to receive $22,975 in stimulus funds

Lyon County has been slated to receive $22,975 in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for 2009 in two different funds.

According to a press release, the Lyon County Emergency Food & Shelter Program has been chosen to receive $11,685 to supplement food and shelter programs in Lyon County. The local Emergency Food & Shelter board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds. Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for the funds should contact Tina Andrews, United Way office manager at tinaa@uwfh.org, 702 Commercial St. or call 342-7564 for an application. The application deadline is 9 a.m. May 7 at the Emporia Public Library meeting room.

Lyon County also has been awarded additional funds in the amount of $11,290 from the state set-aside funds. The meeting will be on May 7 to vote on allocations. Previous allocations have been made to SOS, Lyon County Restricted Emergency Fund, ECKAN, United Way of the Flint Hills and the Emporia Rescue Mission. The local Emergency Food & Shelter board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds. Those interested in being recommended should contact Andrews.
