KELSEY RYAN, who won first place in news writing and series writing at the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press Conference. Ashley-Michelle Papon took first place in review writing.
• LCAT, which received $369,500 in Federal stimulus money. The money will be used for a new bus, shelters and signs.
• Cassidy Andersen, who placed third in the Novice Medium class of the Natural Southern States Classic bodybuilding competition in Liberty Mo. This was his first competition.
• Brenda Holms, whose photo of a bee buzzing around a bloom in Jones Park earned her a Photo of the Week award from Newsweek magazine.
• Paul Du Toit, who moved to Emporia to be the new general manager of the PrairieLand Partner John Deere dealership.
• Emporia Gazette staffers Ashley Walker and C.J. Moore, who won awards at the Kansas Press Association annual conference.
• Larry Grimsley, who was named a recipient of the Huck Boyd Leaders of the Year award. Grimsley was honored for his entrepreneurship.
• Faith, Messiah and St. Mark’s Lutheran churches, which raised $3,400 for the Emporia Rescue Mission and Abundant Harvest.
